Lise Sarfati

French Magnum photographer Lise Sarfati was born in Algeria in 1958, but was living in Nice on the French Rivierra when she started taking photographs at the age of 15. She went on to earn a degree in Russian studies at the Sorbonne in Paris (where she now lives)
In 1986 she was awarded a much desired prize for young photographers, the 'Visa d'Or Kodak du Jeune Reporter'and ten years later in 1996 she won the French Prix Niepce and the US Infinity Award of the International Center of Photography, New York. She also gained scholarships from the French Ministry of Culture (1995) and the Villa M├ędicis (1996) for her Russian work.
Since 2003 she has been working on a project on young Americans, mainly women, leading solitary lives.
